The Commission staff working document ‘Strategic engagement for gender equality 2016-2019’ emphasises the need to integrate a gender equality perspective into all European Union (EU) policies and funding programmes, setting the framework for the Commission’s work towards improving the situation. It focuses on five priority areas: increasing female labour market participation and equal economic independence; reducing the gender pay gap; promoting equality in decision-making; combating gender-based violence and human trafficking; and promoting gender equality and women’s rights across the world.

 

Progress is reported in the annual report on equality between women and men of the European Commission.
