If you are a business, trading within the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Turkey, you have the right to import and export goods freely. The right of free trade also includes the right of free transit: once a product has entered the EU, it can be transported freely throughout the whole EU. However, free circulation is only applicable if the products are subject to harmonised EU rules. Where no EU-wide specifications exist, you must comply with the rules valid in your country. You will still be able to benefit from the free movement of goods on the basis of the principle of mutual recognition.

Distance selling and off-premises selling (including online selling) offers many advantages but it also involves certain obligations under EU law. You will find an overview of your obligations on the ‘Your Europe’ portal.
